Job Description

Full-time position available on or after November 15, 2022 in Athletics.


Under general direction by the Senior Associate Athletics Director, the Senior Communications Specialist is independently responsible for all aspects of the collection, dissemination, and cataloguing of athletic publicity and statistics. This position is directly responsible for athletic event staffing (student assistants for statistical reporting related to the collection of data) and publicity.

Responsibilities

  • Duties include but are not limited to:
    • Responsible for the planning, lead direction, coordination and execution of all athletics communications emanating from the athletic environment.
    • Represent Athletics by serving on the campus University Communications Team.
    • Direct and coordinate all media requests for all athletic events.
    • Responsible for appropriate documentation and cataloguing of all statistics, records, and general information relating to athletics.
    • Responsible for developing, in conjunction with the Athletic Director/designee, a public relations and log branding guide.
    • Serve as prime contact for internal and external constituents and handles more sensitive and complex media contacts. Advises management in the handling of media issues.
    • Serve on appropriate committees as assigned.
    • Provide input to the strategic planning for integration of the Athletic Department as a component of student life and the university as a whole.
    • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Sports Information unit within the scope of the Athletic Department’s mission and the mission of the university.
    • Write, edit, and produce media guides for all sports programs.
    • Assist coaches with writing and disseminating appropriate recruiting materials for specific sports programs.
    • Write, edit, and produce brochures and other peripheral media for the appropriate marketing and publicity of the Athletic Department.
    • Implement and develop proper logo usage and guidelines.
    • Write scripts and communication for athletic events such as: Student Awards Banquet, Presidential Athlete Awards, Crab Feed and etc.
    • Provide leadership and direction to community/campus volunteers in preparation/administration of athletic events.
    • Facilitate logistical and administrative aspects of event preparation.
    • Ensuring deadlines are met, write and publish game recaps for all sports with support from assisting Public Affairs/Communications Specialists.
    • Make website updates to include bios for student athletes, staff and coaches.
    • Oversee production of the CCAA Network.
    • Oversee production of content for Athletics Video Board and touchscreen.
    • Other duties assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience:  Minimum 5 years of related professional or technical experience. 

    Education:  Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, public relations, communications or related field. (Additional directly related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.)
