The Position

The Social Media Coordinator will be responsible for portraying the Department's vision throughout various social media platforms. The candidate will need to create positive connections between the department and the public. Under direction of the Department's public information officer, the candidate will post content on social media as well as respond to social media comments and messages. This position is considered to be part-time and a non-benefited position except for participation in the PARS retirement system.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow department social media accounts;
  • Clearly communicate law enforcement activity;
  • Develop law enforcement content for social media channels;
  • Publish law enforcement content on department social media accounts;
  • Monitor and respond to the public comments on social media accounts;
  • Research and draft posts on a multitude of topics;
  • Stay up to date on platform updates, news, trends, user behaviors to make recommendations to supervisors;
  • Identify opportunities to show the community the work the department does on a daily basis;
  • Attend department recruitment events;
  • Take photographs of the department and it's employees;
  • Track social media analytics and present results to supervisors;
  • Review material for completeness and accuracy;
  • Assemble data and information to assist the Department's public information officer(PIO).
  • Assist the department's PIO to provide responsive, high quality service to County employees, representatives of outside agencies, and members of the public by providing accurate, complete and up-to-date information in a courteous, efficient, and timely manner;
  • Respond professionally to incoming calls and walk-ins;
  • Operate office equipment related to the job

Qualifications

Skills/Abilities

Knowledge

  • English grammar, spelling and proper punctuation;
  • Current social media platforms; and
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point)

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • Type at a net speed of 45 WPM

License/Certification/Etc.

  • Pass County-paid pre-employment drug screening and job-related background investigation.
  • Applicants must possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License and remain free from repeated preventable accidents.
  • This position requires a  typing certification (within four years) from Workforce Development, a temporary agency or comparable institution is required to be attached to your application. Internet typing certificates are not accepted.  The certificate must be a (3) three to (5) five minute timed test; net corrected of 45 words per minute. Typing certificates must be on agency letterhead, dated and signed by the issuing agency and have NET words per minute listed.  Please contact 209-567-4412 before 5:00 P.M. on the final filing deadline to make other arrangements.  Applications submitted without the typing certificate will not be considered.  County employees who currently hold a position which required a typing certificate of 45 wpm are exempt.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in Journalism, Communication, Marketing, Business, Public Relations or similar; OR
  • One (1) year of marketing experience; OR
  • One (1) year of working in a law enforcement setting.
