Special Post: How can I help YOU?

Hey readers,

First and foremost, THANK YOU for visiting this blog. You may know (from the about page) that this blog was part of my spring 2019 sabbatical project. What you may not know is that it was inspired by my complete ignorance of Communication professions.

When I was pursuing my BA in COMM at Fresno State, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I just knew that I loved learning and that speech stuff came naturally to me. I stumbled into grad school, completed my MA, started my first full-time teaching position at the College of Southern Nevada, and then was hired for a tenure-track gig at Modesto Junior College. It wasn't until I became a tenured professor and started tracking my former students that I fully realized the breadth of the Communication discipline.

LISTEN CLOSELY. You don't need to leave the Central Valley to have a high-paying, fulfilling career in Communication. If you want to spread your wings, that's cool, but you don't have to.

We have a ton of interesting COMM jobs in the Modesto area but we have trouble finding qualified candidates for them. Our weakness is your strength. You can find a high-profile job soon after graduation and you can also advance in your career more quickly than if you move to an impacted market.

If you're from Bako or the Fresno area (like me) you can move a few hours up Highway 99 and create a beautiful life for yourself and your family. You may fall in love with Stanislaus County and decide to put down roots, or you may stay for 5- or 10-years to build your career and then move on. Either way, we're better for your contributions.

So check out the COMM jobs posted on this blog every Monday and Thursday. Apply. Let me know which opportunities you're pursuing and how the process worked for you. Let me know how I can help you grow your life in the Modesto area. I'm glad to be of assistance.

Thoughtfully,
Leslie Collins
