Job Description

The Director of Corporate Communications works closely with the President & CEO and oversees all communications involving the credit union including the development and implementation of a communications strategy and a broad and diverse range of business, Board of Director, public relations, employee and marketing communications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide communications support to CEO to effectively communicate Valley First's company culture and brand.
  • Design, execute, and iterate, as needed, thought leadership and executive positioning strategy for CEO including message platform, internal team engagements, and external thought leadership opportunities through traditional media, social media, business organizations, events, and other opportunities.
  • Manage the development of employee communications initiatives and campaigns, inclusive of written content, internal feature stories and executive communications.
  • Ensure consistency of messages across all internal communication channels.
  • Provide corporate templates and tools (newsletter, templates, and guidelines) to all departments.
  • Fields all publicity requests and organizes interview requests of the President & CEO and oversees the management and distribution of all program and brand-related assets and materials.
  • Collaborate with HR partners on content creation and management of LinkedIn site and other appropriate social network channels.
  • Support all employee organizational announcements.
  • Crisis communications and issues management as required.
  • Partner closely with HR, Management, and Departments to define communication needs and execute plans.
  • Partner with all department heads to develop, approve and publish all Intranet Departmental content.
  • Serves as credit union spokesperson in the absences of the President & CEO.
  • Supports the development and execution of communication strategies around corporate priorities and core lines of business.
  • Write speeches, video scripts, presentations, releases, statements, certain client letters, or other documents as needed. Oversees deliverables to ensure accuracy, clarity, and quality.
  • Create and maintain all Board, Supervisory Committee, and Finance Committee documents, including minutes, correspondence, and presentations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or Business Administration plus 10+ years of Corporate Communications experience.
  • 3+ years of financial institution experience required.
  • Experience managing privileged and confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to handle multiple competing and time sensitive priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects on an ongoing basis.
  • Long standing experience in media engagement across business and specialized media titles backed up with high degree of digital understanding/interest.
  • Provide other support to product and channel lines of business such as deposits, loans, mortgages, mobile banking, etc.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 60 pounds
  • Climb/descend stairs in an emergency situation and to transport items between departments and locations
  • Operate routine office equipment including personal computers, copy machines, mobile and landline phones, calculator and others as needed
  • Maintain working on a computer for six to eight hours daily, on average
  • Work extended hours if required or requested by management
  • Regular, reliable and timely attendance
  • Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise. 
  • Must be able to:

  • Complete complex mathematical calculations and spell accurately

  • Effectively handle multiple, simultaneous and changing priorities
  • Exercise highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters
